In 1986, a series of newspaper articles pointing to the alarming numbers of teen pregnancies in Hong Kong deeply moved Gary & Helen Stephens and Ranjan & Phyllis Marwah to found Mother’s Choice in 1987.

Their passion to provide loving, non-judgmental support to the many pregnant teenagers who had no one else to turn to quickly expanded to providing nurturing care to children without families, and to be a voice for them to be in a family.


For Children

Almost 4,000 children in Hong Kong live in institutional care, with hundreds more without safe, loving, and permanent homes. The longer a child lives without a family, the more detrimental it can be to their development.

A recent study from Bain & Company conservatively estimated that the majority of the 7,000 crisis pregnancies in Hong Kong each year are single girls are under the age of 25.
