Dear Amazing Volunteers of Mother’s Choice,
April is a special time for us at Mother’s Choice because the entire month is dedicated to you, our amazing volunteers! Volunteer Appreciation Month is a month dedicated to recognizing and thanking volunteers who lend their time, talent, voice, and resources to meet the critical needs of our community. It is a time to celebrate the impact of your volunteer service!
The past year has been a challenging time for all of us and for our beloved city. Hong Kong has been facing an unprecedented child protection crisis, and the impact of this has been felt across all of our services for children, youth and families. At Mother’s Choice, these challenges also included the suspension of our volunteer program at Child Care Home during the peak of the pandemic (the first time that it’s ever happened in our 34 year history!).
Despite all these challenges, we at Mother’s Choice continue to have HOPE because of you! We have seen many volunteers redirect their energy into serving in different ways. This has ranged from preparing meals for the childcare workers in Child Care Home; to providing online tutoring to our foster care children and video medical consultations to foster families; to donating testing kits and other PPE, as well as providing financial support. Many have also signed up to Info Sessions on foster care and Safe Families and attended our recent Changing Life Stories Conference to educate themselves more on the issues our city is facing. Thank you for your kindness and compassion to serve, and your willingness to step up in new ways. YOU truly are making a difference in the life stories of the children, young girls and families that we support.
Our annual line-up of appreciation and in-person thank you events will be different this year in light of the ongoing social distancing and health concerns that is keeping us all inside. So instead, please keep an eye out for a series of video messages from different staff members who will share the impact that you, our volunteers, have had across the organization!
